Abstract The phenomenon simulated by this model is turbulent, or high-resolution mesh flow past various obstacles. Flow can be identified by a numerical solution to the compressible Navier-Stokes equations. Turbulence is the result of chaotic fluctuations of the solution to this set of equations. The turbulent nature of the flow is resolved and visualized by a numerical solution of these equations on a very fine resolved mesh. Previous approaches to simulating flows around obstacles have relied upon computationally expensive models in areas of high flow variability, or recirculation areas. Currently, there is no suitable mesh generation algorithm that can create a mesh with very fine resolution quickly and accurately. A new approach was needed that could create a high-resolution mesh rapidly and accurately. This project presents a method of generating a high-resolution grid using the solution of the Navier-Stokes equations and simple mathematical operation.
